{HISTORY}

A comfort to new immigrants as much as a statement of beliefs, antique wall plates like this German one possibly came to America carefully tucked into the trunks or carry bags of our country's ancestors seeking a new life for themselves and their families. At a time when their surroundings were very new and very foreign, a decorative plate like this, displayed on the kitchen wall, would have reminded home cooks of both their faith and their heritage. This one is unmarked as far as maker or manufacturer, so we can only tell a small snippet of its story, but here in the Vintage Kitchen, we like to imagine that this plate, in addition to being a religious relic, also served as a conduit for keeping culinary traditions alive and thriving.

With its colorful floral bouquets of tulips and roses, bluebells and buttercups framing the gothic style font and gold filigree swirling around the rim, this plate is a bright beauty in both sentiment and artistry. It most likely dates to the late 1800's/early 1900's and was most probably made at a porcelain factory in Germany.

Full of cottage charm, it makes a lovely display piece now for your kitchen especially thanks to its bright white, colorful and ultra-shiny constitution. Whether you love it for its religious message, its floral appeal,  its German roots or all of the above, this plate brings all the heirloom love home to your cook space.

In beautiful antique condition. No chips or cracks. Some fading on inscription as well as light fading on the gold filigree around the rim.
