{HISTORY}

Oh Heathcliff! Of tormented mind and tortured heart, his is one of the best-known love stories in all of literature. Published in 1847, Emily Bronte's dramatic gothic novel of love and revenge has captured the hearts of readers for centuries. It's hard to believe that this story was not well-received upon initial self-publication and that Emily never lived long enough to see it to revered status. Consistently topping the best-of lists during the 20th and 21st centuries, Wuthering Heights is an all-encompassing novel of people, place, and passion.  

Over the past 180 years, there have been many published versions of this sensational story. One that matches the equally dramatic plot with equally dramatic art is this version, published in 1943 by Random House. Containing wood-cut engravings throughout by Fritz Eichenberg (1901-1990) a renowned German-American illustrator,  the story of Cathy and Heathcliff comes alive in words and images for a truly magical literary experience.

In this edition, the story is printed in two columns per page on paper that has softened and aged over time. Completely and authentically vintage in presentation, it offers 80+ years of genuine patina that is just as beautiful as the story itself.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, this book features slight signs of age mostly on the front and back covers. The corners are bumped and there is some rubbing along the top and bottom edges, as well as a small scuff near the top left corner on the front. Thankfully nothing detracts from the art that is Heathcliff in impassioned stance, leaning against a gnarled tree. If this book was in pristine condition it would not nearly seem as fitting as the cover art that accompanies it. The interior of the book is in wonderful shape with light-tea colored pages, some minor foxing on the end pages a few bent dog-ear corners in the middle.
