Williamsburg Tea Towel with Historic Houses

Regular price $9

Williamsburg was vibrant with color, dust and noise, agog with all the robustness and all the elegance of Virginia's Golden Age. (The Williamsburg Cookbook, 1981 edition)

{HISTORY}

Since it was first founded in 1699, Williamsburg has been a foodie town for locals and travelers alike. Within the historic city limits, hospitality was a big part of this small town's spirit as restaurant owners, tavern managers and innkeepers across centuries have striven to present a composition of meals that represents our country's culinary roots.

This pretty blue and white tea towel, although not vintage in age, presents some of the most historically diverse architecture within the city's town limits. Printed on heavy cotton, the houses featured here are rich with story. The opulent Governor's Palace was once home to Thomas Jefferson along with seven of the state's governors. The Wythe House was home to  one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence.  Weatherburn's Tavern was one of the most successful taverns of Colonial America and the Raleigh Tavern was a hot spot for political decision makers and debaters during the settlement of Virginia.

A fun piece of American history as well as a beautiful linen for kitchen display and use, this towel is an architecture lover's delight!
