Tis now the very witching time of night... William Shakespeare

{HISTORY}

Uranium glass has been around for centuries but especially enjoyed resounding popularity during the Victorian age when it was both a marvel and a beautiful example of colorful glassware. In shades of spring greens and limey yellows by day, uranium glass changes color to bright iridescent shades of neon and chartreuse when viewed with a black light by night.

This spooky, glowing, eerie color change makes uranium glass really fun for Halloween decor. It's mesmerizing and unsettling, dramatic and theatrical all at once  - just the ideal display prop for capturing the essence of the holiday on tablescapes, mantles, bookshelves and bar carts or any place that could use a touch of ghoulish fun.

This set contains six graduated sizes of stemware - two matching water goblets, two matching champagne coupes and two pedestal fruit dishes. Both the goblets and the coupes are a subtle kelly green shade in daylight and contain the same etched glass design of pine needle swags and decorative French-style fleur-de-lis style leaves.  The fruit dishes are a lime green shade in daylight and contain a multi-faceted honeycomb style design on the bowl with a series of circular stripes on the stems. All six glasses glow the same color neon green under a black light.

Because uraniumware does contain very low doses of radioactive material it is not recommended to use this glassware for actual beverage service but decorating with it for display is just fine. When combined with a suspensul theme like a murder mystery dinner party perhaps or a Friday the 13th cocktail party, decorating to set the tone is easy, elegant and effortless with these six.

Although the exact age and manufacturer of this set is unknown we do know they once lived for a time at a Southern antique shop in the mid-1980s. Most likely based on design and decoration, the water goblets and coupes date to the 1920s-1930s era and the fruit cups to the 1940s-1950s era.
