{HISTORY}

Imported to the US from the studio of German glassmaker Richard Sussmuth (1900-1974), this pair of vintage crystal water goblets are the epitome of elegant minimalism. Technically intended as water goblets, we would happily serve wine or cocktails in them as well, as they are beautifully shaped to accommodate a multitude of festive beverages well beyond water.

Made between the 1950s and 1960s. this Navarre pattern was a lovely choice amongst midcentury brides who were selecting stemware to accompany their wedding china. Classic, unfussy and graceful they offered a stylish go-with-anything aesthetic and year-round appeal.  Those were the hallmarks of Richard Sussmuth's style.

A Polish-born glass blower, Richard set up shop in Hesse, Germany making handblown stemware and artistic glassware pieces for an admiring audience. Known for simple compositions as well as more extravagant hand decoration,  Richard's award-winning pieces are now held in variations collections around the world including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
