Welcome to the delightful world of Tootsietoy!

In the 1920s, the Dowst Brothers Co. based in Chicago began manufacturing miniature metal die-cast furniture so that kids could decorate their cardboard dollhouses. Sold in sets for specific rooms of the house - kitchen, bath, dining, parlor, and bedroom, these exquisitely designed metal pieces were a hit from the beginning thanks to their sturdy composition and their artistically detailed shapes.

Many Tootsietoys and houses were designed after popular furniture styles of the era as well as architectural models, so they each contain unique features fastidiously devoted to hallmarks of good craftsmanship.  Needless to say, the attention to detail of the Tootsietoy brand was wonderful. So many pieces were mini replicas of real-life furniture used in real-life rooms. And the die-cast model knew no boundaries!  The line included all sorts of cute must-haves including lamps, bookcases, carts, end tables, beds, mirrors, plant stands, candelabras, chairs. Everything that dolly would ever need in her house!

This metal Tootsietoy stove and chair are part of the 1930s kitchen series.  Painted in taht beautiful green apple shade, the stove and chair are a matching set and would have also been accompanied by a kitchen table, sink, more chairs, refrigerator and a china cabinet. The stove has working component in the drop-down oven door for a fun peek inside as to what's cooking. The chair is one of a few different styles that Tootsietoy made, each in different shapes depending on which decade they were produced. Both these pieces were made during the 1930s. 

Despite the fact, that Tootsietoys were made out of metal, a lot of the furniture pieces did not travel the decades well. It's hard to find sets these days in which there are no broken chairs, bent legs, or repainted surfaces. These two are in original condition with just small amount of chippy paint (mostly on the legs of the stove). So cute for styling creative play, and whimsical decorating Tootsietoys have been delighting people of all ages for over 100 years,

{CONDITION}

In wonderful vintage condition. It's hard to believe that these little wonders are ninety years old! The green paint is chippy in some places due to age. Each piece is stamped with the Tootsietoy mark. There are no broken elements on any pieces, but there is a little notch taken out of the back leg of the stove on the burner side. Both pieces sit flat and firm.
