{HISTORY}

Started in the late 1920s in Minneapolis, MN, the Polanie Club was a cultural heritage organization developed to support Polish immigrants in America and to keep alive the country's traditions, history, and culinary contributions in a global landscape. By hosting regular meetings, lectures and get-togethers, the Polanie Club became a source of great comfort to Polish refugees and immigrants, so much so,  that chapters started popping up in other cities around the US too.

In 1948, the club published its first cookbook, Treasured Polish Recipes for Americans. It became a surprising runaway bestseller, reprinted over a dozen times and selling over 225,000 copies not only in the US but internationally as well. Containing 475 recipes, it covers a wealth of classic Polish cuisine from cabbage rolls to pirogis, fresh horseradish to baba cakes, roasts to sausages. Tucked in between the recipes are cultural notes on holidays, food traditions, Polish customs and poetry all highlighting the beauty and joy of Polish cuisine. All recipes contain fresh, whole ingredients with no canned or convenience foods.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. This cookbook is very clean inside and out. There is a small scuff mark on the lower left-hand corner of the dust jacket but other than that this book is free of cooking spots, stains, notations or markings. The spine is tight and all pages are intact.
