Good food is a celebration of life... (Anna Thomas)

{HISTORY}

In college in the 1970s, German-American filmmaker and author, Anna Thomas wrote her first cookbook - The Vegetarian Epicure - after she found herself leaning more and more on preparing vegetarian meals for herself and her friends.   She was concerned about the environment, pesticides, the treatment of animals, and the footprint stress that a meat-filled diet made on the planet. She also wanted to dispel the myth that a vegetarian diet equaled a boring diet. Here she proves that you don't have to sacrifice gourmet cooking (and eating!) experiences when it comes to choosing a vegetarian diet. Being vegetarian is not all raw vegetables, hard-to-find grains, and unsatisfying cooking tasks.

A runaway hit, The Vegetarian Epicure made Anna a household name among the organic, healthy-eating, back-to-the-land set who appreciated her inspiring menus, easy-to-follow recipes, and diverse array of meals.

Whimsically illustrated by American artist Julie Maas and highlighted with food stories from Anna's life, this book is a feast for the eyes just as much as the belly. With a focus on global cuisine and interesting flavor pairings, there are enough recipes here (262!) to broaden your vegetable repertoire for almost an entire year. Also thoughtfully included is a section on holiday menus, which is a great help for anyone entertaining vegetarian eaters for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Interesting recipes include Potted Edam, Mexican Cheese Pudding, Orange Whole Wheat Pancakes, Russian Vegetable Pie, Baked Soybeans with Chutney, Almond Soup, Creamed Tomato Soup with Cognac, Pea Soup with Butter Dumplings, Black Bread, Italian Mushroom Casserole, Banana Raita,

Please note: This cookbook is vegetarian, not vegan so readers will find some recipes that contain eggs, dairy, and gluten.
