A Jewish cookbook can be almost considered a history book  - a history of 5700 years of happiness and sorrow. Paul Grossinger

{HISTORY}

Throughout the 20th century, the Grossinger family name has been synonymous with two things - hospitality and food. Immigrants from Poland in the early 1900's, Jennie Grossinger and her parents eventually made their way from New York City to a humble farm property in Liberty, Sullivan County, NY just as the 1920's were about to dawn over the Catskill Mountains. Seven decades later, the family was famous among the Catskill resort set as owners and operators of the 1200 acre Grossinger's Hotel and Country Club, one of the largest hotel properties in the Catskill Mountains. To say this was an American dream story is an understatement. Through hard work, good cooking and a philanthropic commitment to share their good fortune, the key to the Grossinger family success lay in their generous spirits, their relentless hospitality, and their commitment to serving good authentic food from their homeland.

In 1958, Jennie published The Art of Jewish Cooking - a collection of 300 recipes passed down through generations of her family. From piroshki to pancakes, strudel to sauerkraut, knishes to kugel, these are the recipes that drew up to 50,000 guests a year to her hotel including many famous celebrities. Now deemed a classic cookbook, what you will find in these pages are simple ingredients and easy to prepare meals steeped in appreciation and respect for Jewish tradition.
