{HISTORY}

Nothing's more fun than a vintage drawing book - not only for its practical instruction but also for its visually captivating retro illustrations. This one, How to Draw and Paint Today's Fashions was written by Viola French for the art book publisher Water T. Foster. Viola was a gorgeously talented artist/illustrator who grew up in Kentucky in the late 1800's but moved westward to California during the jazz age. That's where her artistic career really took off.  In this how-to-draw book, published in 1969, she teaches artists how to easily replicate her style when it comes to creating engaging fashion designs.

Perhaps you might be interested in creating your own aprons or baby bibs or a clothing line for cooks. This book will show you how to best illustrate your ideas so that they come across simply and stylishly. It covers all aspects of figure drawing from overall body shape, to detailed areas involving the head, face and hands. While  primarily focusing on the adult woman, there are a few pages that highlight kids fashions and body shapes as well, including numerous pages on movement and action figures as well.

The large over-sized format with easy to flip pages, makes it easy to spread out on the kitchen table or counter and get to work with all your paints and pencils and pads of paper. In wonderful vintage condition. The front and back covers are bright and colorful. The interior pages are clean and free of notations and marks. The book is bound by two staples. In the middle of the book, pages 17-20 have come apart from the bottom staple, but the pages are still securely attached to the top staple. Please see photo.
