And so begins life and joy in the greenhouse! A prolific writer of gardening books during the mid-19th century James Underwood Crockett (1915-1979) was best known as the comforting host of the first PBS gardening show, Crockett's Victory Garden, which aired in the 1970s.

A beloved expert in his field, James gave everyone practical, hands-on-training and advice when it came to growing all things fruit, flower and vegetable. In the decade before, he was busy writing practical manuals and garden guides that would help enthusiasts successfully connect with nature no matter what the size or shape of the garden. One of these books was Greenhouse Gardening as a Hobby, which was published in 1961.

Inside this thoughtful book, James lays out everything you need to know about greenhouse gardening for the typical homeowner. Everything from the construction of the house itself to interior design and layout, to the best types of plants that will grow and flourish under greenhouse conditions. Focusing mainly on fruits and flowers, with his encyclopedia of ideal plants to grow, his month-by-month activity calendar, his personal recommendations of what will and will not work, well and his troubleshooting advice gained through decades of experience, readers are given all the direction they need to set up a thriving garden in a greenhouse all their own.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. There is a small rip on the spine near the top edge, a small rip on one of the front endpapers, and a darkening of two pages in the center of the book (please see photo). Otherwise, this book is in great shape with clean pages and a tight spine.

Measures 5.5" inches (width) x 8.5" inches (length) x 1" inch (thickness) and weighs just over 1lb.
