You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together. Anthony Bourdain

{HISTORY}

Iconic American pottery maker Homer Laughlin has been sharing meals with eaters for over 100 years. Interestingly enough, so has this platter. Made between 1908 and 1928, it is from the Hudson line - a large umbrella of a pattern that contained many different designs underneath it.  This one features sprays of golden floral bouquets around a scalloped and embossed rim. Pretty without being fussy, it is made of heavy, sturdy ironstone -  no doubt a substantial presence on the table and in the china cabinet. It also has the added benefit of looking gorgeous on a wall.

We like to imagine that this platter lived a completely unexpected life. Maybe somewhere out in Montana or Wyoming where it proudly served dinners of wild game to wild men. At first glance, you might say a floral platter such as this is very pretty and feminine, but that doesn't mean all antique dishware has to be ladylike in spirit.

Bright and shiny, it reflects light, looks great with trendy greys and moody dark interiors, and fits in perfectly with your gold, copper and bright white serving pieces. Needless to say, its pretty accommodating on all fronts. Perhaps that's why it has made it through 100 years. An easy dish with effortless style. Perfect for wild dinners and adventurous decorating.
