One thing is always guaranteed when it comes to antique porcelain from Limoges, France. It's always beautiful. These three soup bowls were made by Haviland & Co between 1889-1931 and feature a light, bright and airy color palette consisting of green and teal shades with a dash of walnut added in for contrast. 

Accented with shell-style embossing and a scalloped rim, these are the type of soup bowls that will carry you through every season with beauty on their side. From cool cucumber soup in summer to hearty spilt pea in winter, they will make your table just as lovely looking as the menu items themselves. 

That's the stylish guarantee that the Haviland family was known for. Synonymous with fine quality porcelain - not only an assurance of exquisite craftsmanship but also of gorgeous patterns, the Havilands have been making and selling dishes since the 1800s.  Like all families with generations of an empire behind them, the Havilands weren't without their own dramas. Between the 1950s-1970s, Haviland enthusiast Arlene Sclheiger catalogued the thousands of different patterns bearing the Haviland name. Since many Haviland patterns were not named in the factory, Arlene devised her own numerical pattern system to differentiate one Haviland design from another. It was a huge undertaking, one that consumed a large portion of her life. But it was not in vain. Arlene's work is still the standard catalog tool used by collectors today.

These bowls with their pale teal flowers and trailing green leaves and grasses are part of the Schleiger 245 pattern - an important number to know if you are filling out an existing collection or interested in starting one anew.
