Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be... Robert Browning

{HISTORY}

S is for spring and for summer... for sharing and serving... for showstoppers and soirees and every kind of food that is sweet and spicy and savory.

S is also for Homer Laughlin. That was the maker of these beautiful monogrammed luncheon plates in 1912. Made for their Hudson line, a large umbrella of a pattern series that contained many different designs underneath it, most of the patterns in this series featured a gold and white color palette. Although the specific pattern name for these plates is unknown, they were modeled after elegant French Limoges and feature a dainty gold floral design, an "S" monogram tucked inside a laurel wreath and delicate raised embossing around the edge.

Both sensational and shabby all at once, these dishes enjoyed some very good times during their 111 years of service. One plate contains two small chips along the rim, and another plate contains a light stress crack near the center. But these imperfections only add to the character and fragile nature of dishes now over a century old. Depending on your personal preference, you may want to relegate these four to the art wall or display them as backdrops in your china cabinet. Or if you love that aged look, just like we do, you might want to keep this set in rotation for all your pretty mealtime gatherings. They are storytellers after all,

Made in the month that Titantic sank (April 1912), they've survived and been a part of  all the major world wars and significant events including women's right to vote, the civil rights movement, the birth of the modern kitchen, the internet, international space travel, international air travel, and about a million holidays and birthday parties and anniversaries and weddings. They've seen and served and celebrated it all while remaining classicly stylish across eleven decades. That's pretty spectacular! Cheers to them for another hundred still to go.

There is light staining around the edge of each plate, one stress mark crack on one plate that measures 2.5" inches in length) and one age-old surface chip near the center on another plate. Please see all photos.

Each plate measures 9" inches in diameter and weighs 15 oz. Combined this set weighs 3.9lbs.

{STYLE IDEA}

These plates looks especially pretty with this platter, this serving dish, and these antique cups and saucers
