{HISTORY}

S is for spring and for summer... for sharing and serving... for showstoppers and soirees and every kind of food that is sweet and spicy and savory.

S is also for Homer Laughlin. That was the manufacturer of these beautiful monogrammed dessert/salad plates made in 1912. Made for their Hudson line, a large umbrella of a gold and white pattern series that encapsulated many different designs underneath it. Although the specific pattern name for these plates is unknown, they were modeled after elegant French Limoges and feature a dainty gold floral design, an "S" monogram tucked inside a laurel wreath with delicate raised embossing around the edge. 

Made in the month that Titantic sank (April 1912), they've survived and been a part of  all the major world wars and significant events including women's right to vote, the civil rights movement, the birth of the modern kitchen, the internet, international space travel, international air travel, and about a million holidays and birthday parties and anniversaries and weddings. They've seen and served and celebrated it all while remaining classicly stylish across eleven decades. That's pretty spectacular!

{CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition, these plates contain no cracks or chips with the exception of one small chip along the edge of the rim on one plate and two small chips on the back on another plate. All three of these chips measure less than 1/8th" inch in size and are very old. There is some light staining around the rims of two plates and on one plate near the center, all offering a gorgeous sense of age and history. The gold lettering and floral pattern are in great shape with just the slightest of rub marks mostly occurring on the monogram sections. Please see photos.

Each plate measures 8" inches in diameter and weighs 10 oz. Combined this set weighs 2.10 lbs.
