{HISTORY}

Made right around 1900 in Limoges, France by porcelain maker Bernardaud a Cie, this 13" inch platter features a clover or shamrock pattern complete with small purple-pink flowers and gold-painted handles. Containing over a dozen four-leaf clovers tucked inside a ring of three-leafers, this platter will easily become your lucky server just based simply on its adaptability.

Elegant, as all French designs usually are, this platter offers a restained simplicity that looks gorgeous with an array of foods - particularly fish, chicken and vegetable dishes. It also makes a gorgeous statement piece for wall decoration or cupboard display.

In addition to the pottery in France, a Bernardaud a Cie brand office opened in New York City just before the start of the 1920s. Fom there, they coordinated imports directly from their French factory to retailers in the United States. Known for their high quality and beautiful desigsn, many early 20th-century department stores within NYC carried Bernardaud pieces including Gimbel's, Frederick Loeser and John Wanamaker's. Their customers could purchase single pieces or an entire set ranging in price anywhere from $1.15 for a platter of this size to $49.00 for a complete set of 100 pieces in 1923 prices.

On the back of this platter, you'll notice the Bernardaud a Cie mark and a D and C France mark. D & C stands for Delinieres a Cie - the last name of the founding partner along with Bernardaud.   The presence of those two marks help date this piece to about 1900 when both partners were active in the company.
