{HISTORY}

Made in Hanley, England in 1890 or a bit before, this rare petite ironstone pitcher hails from the pottery of J & G Meakin. Bigger than a creamer but smaller than a water jug, it's a great size for all sorts of kitchen purposes from serving to storage. 

Did this one travel from 1800s England to serve in one of the hotels or boardinghouses or summer cottages that the advertisement above mentioned? We aren't sure. But it is fun to imagine the possibilities.

Originally, this pitcher most likely spent time table-side serving small-batch beverages, and while it can still offer that same service now, it also holds other purposes too.  Graceful in shape with its curvy lower half, it is sturdy enough and large enough to house a collection of cooking utensils or flatware for pretty countertop display. It also looks gorgeous when repurposed as a vase for year-round flower bouquets.

Like all antique ironstone, this one looks gorgeous in collection with other similar pieces, making it both a design choice and a functional part of the kitchen. We just love classic dishware like this - the ones that float flawlessly between decades and centuries, always in style and always accommodating no matter what your needs.

Unusual in shape, it's long spout and a high handle giving it an elegant shape that is unique and hard to find among jugs of this size. Faint staining on the lip and handle add one-of-a-kind character and an aged aesthetic.

(CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition. There are no chips or cracks. There is some light staining along the lip as it swoops down towards the handle, as well as some minor staining and scuff marks at the top of the handle. The glaze is shiny both inside and out, and the interior is very clean and bright. Please see photos.
