I am Quartermaster. My story is enfolded in the history of this nation. Sustainer of armies... (excerpt from The Quartermasters Creed)

{HISTORY}

Just like gravy is an essential part to Thanksgiving dinners, so is the United States Quartermaster Corps when it comes to the military. First established in 1776, this logistical branch of the United States Army coordinates and supports many different tasks within the Army including food service. Although their role has changed over the course of 200 years, quartermasters have always acted as support teams for other areas of the branch. But since the early 1900s, it has been the quartermaster's job to order and coordinate delivery of food supplies and equipment to Army commissaries as well as figure how to feed soldiers during wartime combat.

It is fun and fitting that this vintage gravy boat is stamped with the U.S.Q.M.C designation not only symbolizing that it was an important serving piece in the dining lives of soldiers and military personnel but also a necessary one. Everyone loves gravy after all!

Classic in shape and style, this gravy boat comes with a subtle bit of unique flair in the embossed saber which appears on both sides of the boat near the handle. Strong and sturdy it weighs in at just under 2lbs and like all vintage restaurant ware it carries with it a magical spirit of adventure from other times and other places. Generally, Shenango dated their pieces alongside the maker's mark information on the bottom of each dish, but this mark is blurry and faded on this boat so we can't say exactly when this one was made. Shenango began fulfilling government contracts early as the 1930s but the pottery was sold in the late 1960s and the company name was no longer used after 1991. Regardless, military life means constantly being on the move for dishes and people, so this one has been an adventurer from the very start.
