Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the Autumn tree. Emily Bronte

{HISTORY}

 So classic and complementary to Autumn mealtimes and cozy homebaked treats, this set of four bread and butter plates was made by the Royal China Jeanette Corporation in Sebring OH in the 1980s. Fifty years before these plates were made, the Royal China Co established itself during the 1930s. From the beginning, Royal China was a trendsetter in the industry. They had a female founder, created the first underglaze stamping machine, and hired an entire production line of workers on a delayed payment system so that the pottery could get on its feet and build a strong foundation without a lot of overhead costs during the difficult economic conditions of the Great Depression years.

Eventually becoming the third-largest dishware producer in the country, Royal acquired smaller potteries during the middle years of the 20th century before being acquired themselves by Jeanette Glass Co in the 1970s. That's the point in the company's history when these plates came into being. The Royal China and Jeanette Glass partnership didn't last quite as long though as Royal's initial run. Purchased by Coca-Cola in the early 1980s, the Royal line of Jeanette Glass ceased operation in 1986.

Even though these Royal Jeanette plates, made in the Sussex pattern, are just 35 years old, they retain a timeless style that fits well with any decade in the 1900s and even the century before that. Their, pattern reminiscent of antique English transferware, blends well with ironstone and classic all-white vintage dishware for a lovely layered mix-and-match aesthetic that calls out for warm Autumn foods. Slices of pumpkin pie or banana bread, scoops of apple crisp or chocolate mousse, rustic cuts of country bread or homebaked brownies all look lovely (and especially appetizing!) sitting atop these beauties.
