Vintage 1960s French Language Vinyl Record Course - Living French Living Language Course circa 1968
The Living Language Course uses the natural method of language learning. You learn French the way you learned English - by hearing the language and repeating what you heard. You didn't begin by studying grammar, you first learned how to say things... (from the introduction)
{HISTORY}
In 1968, when you wanted to learn a new language in under six weeks, you didn't go to a fancy language school, or invest in a myriad of translation dictionaries, or hire a tutor to teach you. You simply pulled out your record player.
This very fun, very vintage way to learn a new language is just the ticket to have you parlez-vousing in no time. Using this vinyl language course, you learn all the practical ways to communicate clearly and effectively in conversational French. Some of the topics featured here include how-to's on a variety of subjects - how to order breakfast, read a menu, ask a question, tell time, count, make small talk, buy products, rent an apartment, discuss the weather, and make new friends.
Achieved by listening to both a male and female voice across four records that work in tandem with the conversation manual workbook, this repetitive style of learning follows a hear it, say it, absorb it approach. That's the method the Living Language Courses has been using since 1946 to teach students, professionals, members of the military, and government officials the art of quickly learning and communicating in a foreign language.
This course includes 4 vinyl records containing 40 lessons and a 118-page companion conversation manual that works alongside the records and offers review quizzes at the end of each section. Originally, this kit would have also included a common usage dictionary. Somewhere along the last 60 years, that booklet got separated from this kit, but you don't need it in order to learn the language or complete this course as intended. The conversation manual and the records provide all the info you need to become a confident French speaker.
In less than 60 days, with the help of this language kit, you'll be ordering coffee and croissants at a Parisian cafe just like a local. Comme c'est magnifique!

{CONDITION}
In lovely vintage condition, all the records are in great shape with little to no surface scratches. One record looks like it has a deeper scratch on Record 1 Side 2 in the section that details the days of the week and the months of the year. We tested this record to see if the scratch affected the quality and we are happy to say that it does not. It doesn't even skip ahead.
As is the case with all vintage records, there is that lovely crackly sound that can never exactly be replicated on any other modern auditory device. The conversation manual booklet is in great shape - clean and bright throughout with no nations except for one written in felt pen on page 15 that says "end side 2 record 1."
The original box is in great shape. Strong and sturdy it's bright and colorful on the front. The back contains some sun fading and the remnants of the original sales sticker. Three of the records have paper sleeves. The fourth record has a leaf of paper to protect it.
