She's a very special vintage elephant planter vase with a sweet disposition and lots of character.

Possibly made by McCoy Pottery sometime between the 1930s and 1940s, she doesn't contain any manufacturing markings other than an embossed USA on her belly, but what she lacks in specific origin story details, she more than makes up for in personality.

Featuring red cold-press paint on her eyes and the tip of her trunk, she carries curiosity in her facial features and space for a small plant or bouquet of flowers on her back.

From all directions, she looks interesting, but we especially love the adventuresome side of her, which features a small chip on the top of one ear. All time travelers wear their adventures with humble elegance and pride, and Eloise is no different in that department.

There's a lot of strength and dignity when it comes to tumbling through eighty, maybe ninety, years of life. What may seem like a flaw, in Eloise's case, is really flair. At one point in time, her cold paint may have included a grey body and a pink trunk, but long worn away, the only details that suggest this color palette are a few tiny random dots that hint at an additional color palette. Aside from the chip on her ear, she has two pencil-point-sized chips around the rim of the planter section and a 2" inch hairline crack near her tail that looks like crazing. Don't let her slightly shabby exterior fool you though. All these hallmarks of time and adventure are what giver her sentimental charm and sets her apart from all the other elephants in all the other lands.

If you are looking for something unique to brighten your day or to cheer up your kitchen, Eloise is your gal. And your pal.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

Creamy white and red color palette

USA mark (hard to find these days)

Small size

{CONDITION}

In lovely, slightly shabby vintage condition, please see note above regarding condition issues. There are two tiny (pencil-point-sized) chips on the rim area of the planter, one two inch long hairline crack next to the tail, and lovely authentic crazing marks. All of these flaws, minus the ear chip, are not very apparent at first glance, and do not show up very well in photos. We zoomed in on the areas where the two small planter rim chips are as well as the hairline crack, but they do not appear that obvious when looking at the overall composition of the planter, as you can see in the other photos where she is wholly displayed with the books and flowers. The hollow interior area holds water without leaking.
