{HISTORY}

James Beard needs no introduction as to his brilliance in the 20th century kitchen, but if you are not quite familiar with his name, you'll know him best through the food prepared by your favorite modern day chef. How is that, you ask? Because chances are James Beard's style of cooking greatly influenced your modern day favorite and perhaps even taught him or her the simple touch points of all good cooking - the freshest ingredients you can find and the most interesting food flavor arrangements you can assemble.

It is true that James Beard made a lifelong career out of good cooking, but he'll be the first to tell you that a recipe is a recipe, and while anyone can follow instructions enough to make one dish, it takes a true food lover to prepare a memorable menu that combines several recipes for one magnificent and harmonious meal. 

This concept can be a challenge to many cooks, but rest assured James Beard, or Jim, as he was known in the industry, has us all covered with his 1965 cookbook, simply titled Menus for Entertaining. In it, he covers menus for all size gatherings from intimate brunches to large scale holiday parties and covers all course of the meal from cocktail time all the way through the dessert course. As a foodie first and a natural born teacher second, he wanted everyone to be a success in the kitchen, so that home cocks could effortlessly enjoy the food and the party experience just as much as the invited guests. 

In his practical and easy to understand voice, Jim shares with readers over 600 recipes for a variety of festive situations from picnicing to ladies luncheons, New Year's Eve parties to Mexican fiestas, hors d'oeuvre suppers to outdoor dinners and brunch lunch bonanzas. Menus for Entertaining is a true feast through all four delicious seasons!

- Everything in this cookbook sounds delicious but to give you an idea of recipes included, here are some interesting ones -  Estofat de Beoeuf, Mango Macademia Nut Syrup, Brioche Sandwiches, Hot Fava Beans with Fresh Herbs, Braised Salmon in Red Wine, Apricot Souffle 

- In addition to determining what foods to prepare for what occassions, Jim also offers advice on table setting decor, the order of preparation for each menu's dishes and advice on how to best serve the meal once its ready. 

- The final chapters include a detailed wine pairing list as well as a section devoted to liquers and how/when they will fit appropriately into a variety of meals

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. The dust jacket is a rare find on this edition, so we are lucky that this one is included. There are a few chippy spots along the dust jacket edges, some staining on the inside of the jacket and a water mark on the backside but it is fully intact and has protected the actual cookbook very well. The cookbook itself is in great shape with a tight spine, clean pages and no markings. On a few pages there a couple of very light smudges but all very insignificant and hardly worth noting.
