{HISTORY}

Ada Lou Roberts grew up baking with her Pennsylvania Dutch grandmother's recipes.  When she felt confident about the techniques and processes of working with different types of doughs, she started developing her own best methods, which resulted in numerous articles for Gourmet magazine and the publication of several well-received bread-baking books during the later half of the 20th century.

In this fascinating and informative book, published in 1967 Ada Lou explores baking with homemade starters using all sorts of different methods and ingredients. Making sure the information was accessible and easily digestible for all levels of home cook, Ada Lou walks readers through each recipe step by step, and educates home bakers on the right equipment and techniques to use. So thorough in content, she tackles the subject from every angle including the history of bread making, 24 pages devoted entirely to the different styles of bread (marble loaf, pull-apart, kaiser roll, brioche, baton, bloomer, etc) and a bibliography of other a dozen different bakery books for further reading.

All yeast and/or potato-based starters, she explores raw potato recipes, cooked potato recipes and additional added ingredients to form interesting breads for sweet dough, sourdough, and savory dough delights.

In gorgeous vintage condition. The dust jacket contains some small chippy spots on the spine edge and the top edge of the back cover. Both the exterior coverboards and interior pages are clean and bright with no markings or stains. The spine is tight and all pages are intact.
