We love the above description announcing a new collection of WH Grindley dishware fresh from the UK since it captures not only excitement of new stock from a faraway land, but also reveres the definitive tastes of female shoppers in charge of selecting fine dishware for their homes. And nothing brought prettier style to kitchens and dining rooms quite like Grindley.

Made in England between 1891–1914 by W.H. Grindley & Co., there is much to love about this pretty plate. For starters, it features a beautiful teal blue floral, known as the Eileen pattern, with blossoms that run all around the shoulder, the center, and the inner stripe. Embossed details appear in the form of dots and florals around the rim and a lacy scallop design surrounds the center florals. A scalloped edge mirrors the soft, round shapes of the bouquets and a barely there hand-painted gold stripe completes the overall aesthetic on front.

The back of the plate features the WH Grindley & Co England mark which includes a globe with a steamer ship perched on top. Crazing on both the back and front, and three old chips at the edge add authentic weathered charm to the entire ensemble, marking this time traveler that has adventured across 135 years of history with all sorts of character.

In operation for over 100 years, W.H. Grindley & Co. was founded in 1880 in England's bustling pottery hub of Stoke-on-Trent. Makers of both mass-market china and hotelware for export, W.H. Grindley pieces came in an array of eye-catching designs and color palettes, making them both beautiful stand-alone pieces for decorative display as well as especially pretty choices for mismatched antique table settings. Associated with a handful of other notable potteries throughout its 100-year run, including Alfred Meakin, Grindley ceased operation in 1991 after being acquired by Woodlands Pottery.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Eileen pattern

Colors include varying shades of teal from light to dark, bright white, and gold.

{CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition, this dinner plate bears all the hallmarks of an exciting life spanning 135 years. This plate contains no cracks, but there are three small chips on the front rim, each measuring 1/8 inch in length. Most likely, those chips were caused by a plate hanger. The gold stripe around the rim is wearing off in many places, and there is light crazing on both the back and the front, which adds a beautiful aged aesthetic.

{SIZE}

Measures 9.75 inches (diameter) and weighs 15 oz.

https://shopinthevintagekitchen.com/products/antique-wh-grindley-co-eileen-pattern-dinner-plate-circa-1891-1914
