antique-gold-and-white-hexagon-shaped-plate-with-floral-design
Rare Antique Gold and White Hexagon Shaped Plate with Floral Design

{HISTORY}

Unique in pattern and shape, this petite antique plate features an eye-catching design of florals, flourishes, and plant roots complete with a Tudor rose at center. A gadroon style embossed edge adds extra flair along with shimmery stripes and a glossy shine.

Unmarked as to maker or manufacturer, with the exception of a handwritten number code on the back, we can only guess at both its age and its place of origin.

Similar to the Stoke-on-Trent pottery, Anthony Shaw, and their original Tea Leaf pattern, this plate contains both gold and copper lustre in the decorative pattern. This was a popular design element on dishware of the mid-1850s, so we suspect that this plate was made in England somewhere around the mid-19th century.

Perhaps once part of a tea set, possibly utilized as a server for biscuits or other delectables, its small 7" inch size and hexagon shape is ideally suited to tray service since you can fit cups and saucers and a tea pot quite comfortably around the plate's edges.

Agricultural in theme, with imagery of flowers, sun motifs, leafy stems, delicate roots, and flourishes shaped like puffy clouds or rolling hills, we like to imagine that this plate was right at home on a country estate. Whether that was in England or in America, it's no matter. Now it will be home at your house, where, hopefully it will beautify its surroundings for another 175 years.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

Very hard to find shape and pattern

Unmarked as to maker but includes handwritten bun,bering system on back

Contains both gold and copper lustre in the design

{CONDITION}

In beautiful antique condition, this plate contains no chips, cracks, spots or staining.
