{HISTORY}

In use in the factory of the International Silver Company in Meriden, Connecticut this vintage pre-1940s era box was an organizer for teaspoons as they came off the factory line.

Based on the removal of a series of paper stamps that were precariously stapled to the front of the box, pasted one on top of the other, we were able to date this storage organizer's use to 1947-1948. It was un use as a holder for Lady Betty teaspoons and dessert spoons, Queen Ann teaspoons and Charlemaine flatware. Other layers of paper stamps held various inter-company messages and directives in both typed and handwritten forms.

Measuring 15" inches (length) x 7" inches (width) x 5" inches (height) and full of aged character, this box continues to be a helpful organizer today as well as a handsome display box for rustic farmhouse appeal. A lovely size for table centerpieces, it's fun for holiday decorating too. Pile it high with mini pumpkins for autumn, fir boughs for Christmas or fresh flower bouquets for spring and summer and you have the start to year-round tablescapes with unlimited decorating possibilities.

The International Silver Company, a conglomeration of over two dozen New England silversmith brands, operated in Meriden, CT from 1898-1981. Following its closing, ISC factory buildings sat vacant for dozens of years before being demolished in the early 2010s. This box, a survivor of history, now acts as a representative for a long-standing New England business that manufactured the world's largest selection of silverware.

For a bit of added fun (and potentially a craft project or two), seven of the paper labels originally affixed to the front will also accompany this box.
