{HISTORY}

Moriage is an artistic style of design most often seen on porcelain pieces made in Japan. Popular during the Victorian era through the 1950s, it is a design aesthetic produced using extra clay on top of the porcelain body so that it creates a raised design rather than something flat or flush against the porcelain body. In this case, with this pretty little creamer, the gold moriage appears in the flower petals like outlines, giving depth and extra shine to the blossoms themselves. 

Simple yet elegant, this porcelain creamer is particularly interesting because it offers two different floral designs on each side but only one side contains the moriage detailing. Enhanced with a gold handle and a gold rim, the whole creamer sparkles as light reflects off of it, giving it an extra dose of dazzling shimmer and shine.

Marked on the bottom with a yet-to-be-identified porcelain mark, this creamer is a mystery as to maker or manufacturer, but its clean lines and simple shape make it a very accommodating piece for the serving set alongside cups and saucers and sugar bowls, and snack plates. It would look particularly beautiful with mix and match collections, especially all white and antique ironstone dishware.

{CONDITION}

Made of thicker porcelain (not quite as delicate as a porcelain teacup) this creamer is in lovely shape. There are no cracks or chips but there is a scuff mark and a mysterious black dot on the front of the spout, just underneath the rim (plaese see photo). The gold detailing on the handle and rim are wearing in some spots due to age. The creamer is clean and bright on the inside.
