{HISTORY}

The lineage of porcelain making in Germany and Poland has long been intertwined with various connections to people and places in the industry that both influenced and competed with each other. These soup bowls are just one example of how world events and art affect each other.

Featuring the Wawel mark, these beautiful mum flower bowls are exquisite in color palette, design and craftsmanship. Made in Poland between the 1950s and 1970s,  Wawel was part of the Carl Krister porcelain brand first founded in 1833 when it was known as Krister Porzellan-Manufaktur. With initials KPM for short, Carl initially mirrored many designs and styles of the luxury German porcelain maker KPM (see an example of that dishware in the shop here) but soon developed his own reputation for fine craftsmanship and quality dishware. Successful right from the start, over the course of two centuries Carl's pottery evolved with the times and underwent several name changes. By the time this Wawel mark emerged in 1952, the pottery was known as Porcelana Stolowa Krzysztof and was officially located in a newly defined area of Poland following WWII.

This pattern of beautifully detailed lilac-colored mums, small blue flowers and vibrant green leaves was utilized by other porcelain manufacturers including Rosenthal, where it was known as Daphne Pompadour and Halsey where it was called Autumn Dawn. Who made this design first is uncertain, but Wawel called this pattern Harvest Dawn.

Large in size (9.25" inches in diameter) with a big scalloped rim and big florals, this set of makes a big statement whether it appears on the table or on the shelf. Lovely for spring and summer soirees, these bowls make all sorts of summer foods from salads to pasta, cold soups to saucy fruit desserts look especially beautiful.
