{HISTORY}

The art of applique embroidery has been around since the Egyptian period when it was first recorded on pieces of clothing. Since then, applique can be seen on all sorts of cloth from household linens to bedding to clothing and accessories. The usefulness of an applique fingertip towel extends to all areas of the house, but in particular, we like to incorporate them in the kitchen for some pretty specific jobs.

Their colorful, whimsical designs led themselves to youthful spirits, so they make excellent kitchen linens for young cooks based on their size and their durability. They make great tray liners, napkins, display linens, and basket liners. They also make great drying towels for glassware since they leave surfaces lint-free.

This set of two vintage linens features flower bouquets in the shades of pink, yellow, blue, and green with red dots, and a scalloped edge. They were machine embroidered and then what looks to be touched up by hand with some embroidery stitches in certain areas. Lots of companies, as well as individual sewers, made applique linens, but we believe these to be homemade as they vary in length by an inch, and the threads were not clipped on the backside.

{CONDITION}

Very bright and clean. Contains no holes, spots, or stains. There is some slight fraying of the scalloped edge.

Once cloth measures 18.25" inches  (length) x 13.5" inches (width). The other cloth measures 19.25" inches (length) x 13.5" inches (width)
