Vintage British Birds Tea Towel by Clive Mayor - Made in England
{HISTORY}
Oh for the love of birds!
Bring a little bit of the English countryside home to your house with this beautiful vintage tea towel featuring eighteen British bird portraits by celebrated UK artist Clive Mayor.
Printed on 100% cotton, this is the type of tea towel that looks just as great on a serving tray as it does hanging from a hook in the kitchen. Thanks to the creatively placed portraits, there is always something interesting to look at from any angle.
As far as function goes, like all vintage tea towels, these vintage cotton linens are the absolute best when it comes to drying dishes and glassware. Our modern-day counterparts never can quite compare.
The only unfortunate thing about this tea towel is the lack of information on Clive and his portfolio of work. All that we could find through our research was that he was a commercial artist most active between the 1950s-1980s. From his home base in Rishton, England he worked on all sorts of projects including book illustrations, textile design and fine art.
The birds featured here include the Cuckoo, Jay, Chaffinch, Robin, Osprey, Swallow, Nightingale, Lapwing, House Martin, Blue Tit, Kingfisher, Pheasant, Nuthatch, House Sparrow, Chiffchaff, Skylark and a pair of Redwings.
A rustic, earthy color palette makes this one a fun choice for autumn and winter, but it's also great for year-round cottage and cabin decor too. Or add it to your picnic basket packing list and tote it along on all your outdoor adventures. Don't forget the binoculars.

{CONDITION}
In lovely vintage condition. this cotton tea towel is soft, clean, and bright. The bird portraits are crisp and clear and the colors are softly vivid. At some point, someone patched a small area, probably a hole, with a bit of embroidery thread. The thread is the same golden mustard color as found in the imagery and is barely noticeable ( look for it near the cuckoo underneath the branch under the B in Birds). This repair measures 1/4" inch in size. Also on the left-hand side in the brown border area near the bottom, there is a pencil-point-sized hole mostly likely caused by a retail hang-tag. Again, like the embroidered patch, this hole is barely noticeable. Please see photos.
