All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast. John Gunther; journalist 1901-1970

{HISTORY}

Whether your breakfast involves oatmeal, yogurt, cereal or just a simple bowl of berries, these vintage restaurant ware bowls will help you start the day happy. Then they'll help you enjoy all the other meals of the day too. Made in 1966 by Pennsylvania pottery, Shenango, these very versatile dishes with their green and aqua floral design and their wide semi-shallow shape are great for all sorts of food companions that stretch far beyond breakfast. Chili, ice cream, soup, pasta, salad, rice, pudding... there's an assortment of delicious fun waiting to be had.

Now a rare, hard-to-find pattern, these heavy-duty bowls were made in Shenago's Rim Rol Wel Roc style which was a specific type of body design that made it easier to handle and serve in busy restaurant environments. You'll notice on these bowls, in particular, there is a bit of a relief-style-grip halfway between the floral rim and the base. That means these bowls were headed for a busy eatery somewhere in America where there was a bustling grab-and-go wait staff or a self-serve element that was designed to keep food service lines moving quickly and efficiently. Perhaps it was a college campus or a corporate cafeteria, maybe a school lunchroom or a large social club. The possibilities are vast and interesting.

Many pieces of vintage restaurant ware hint at the exact destinations they were meant for.  Some specifically tell you through logos or monograms or hallmarks of a certain kind, but not all patterns relay such historical information. That's the fun of collecting vintage restaurant ware. Sometimes the imagined stories are just as great as the real ones.
