{HISTORY}

Made by the Syracuse Ornamental Company (also known as Syroco) in 1967 this gorgeous golden bird on a branch looks as if it is made out of finely, detailed, hand-carved wood but it is actually made out of molded plastic - a technique that Syroco perfected over the course of half a century.  

Based in Syracuse, New York, Syroco was founded by Adolph Holstein in 1890. An immigrant to America, Adolph first began designing and hand-carving wooden reliefs for fireplace mantels and various artistic interior decor pieces. His work quickly became quite popular prompting him to come up with faster, easier ways to produce pieces that still retained a highly stylized level of quality and design. That led to a wood pulp version later called Syroco wood which worked well with hand-carved molds and in turn eventually led to a plastic mold version from which our lovely bird came to life.  

Originally part of a four-piece series that included another bird, and two other sets of tree branches, our lovely lady now flies solo at ease with her own independence.
