Vintage 1940s Pyrex Refrigerator Dish - No 502 A-1 S Blue
It cooks food better and dishes look more appetizing! Pyrex ware makes your family want to eat the healthy foods that they ought to eat! (1940s Pyrex ad campaign)
Back in the 1940s, when you wanted to add a little color to your mealtimes, your oven and your fridge you reached for your pyrex refrigerator dishes. They came in bright, primary shades - red, yellow, blue and green - to match your pyrex mixing bowls and to give your kitchen a coordinated look. With their ability to go from fridge to oven to table, these handy little dishes made kitchen prep and cleanup a breeze from start to finish.
Popular from day one - these storage favorites remained favorites for decades as home cooks and collectors appreciated their size and function no matter how refrigerators themselves changed in size and shape from decade to decade.
Loaf-pan-like in shape, this 1940s refrigerator dish was originally part of a basic fridge set and came with its own corresponding glass lid. The color is called blue but it is actually much more like a bright, deep turquoise or even a teal shade than a more traditional blue. That slight bit of warmth to the color palette gives it a great retro vibe making it an ideal companion next to those cherry reds, lemon yellows and citron greens that made midcentury kitchens so cheerful and sunny eighty years ago.
