The Farmers' Almanac has been part of the American way of life for so long that it has become a tradition. This cookbook has survived critical examination by the greatest food editors and home economists of yesterday, and today testifies to its soundness. Thea Wheelright, 1968

{HISTORY}

No bones about it, Farmers' Almanac editor Thea Wheelwright, knew a good thing when she saw it. Whether that be a recipe, a cooking technique, a story lead or a publication Thea devoted her entire life to the publishing industry during the 20th century while living and working in New York and Maine.

Devoted to wisdom, wellness, and all things country living, the Farmers' Almanac has been discussing the subject of food, and the growing and cooking of it, since 1818.  You can imagine in the course of two centuries the bevy of good recipes and interesting dishes they encountered! The recipes in this now hard-to-find cookbook, published in 1969 were complied by Harry Botsford, a well-respected food editor at Esquire Magazine who appreciated simple recipes with few ingredients that produced delicious results.

Tested, trusted and beloved this cookbook features from-scratch cooking with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal, whole ingredients and does not rely on convenience foods. Interesting recipes include Mincemeat Oatmeal Cookies, Peach Cream Tarts, Rye Bread, Carrot Bread, Bean Sanwiches, Potted Cheese, Pickled Carrots, Lamb Hash, Baked Duck Omelet, Crab Gumbo, Cold Lima Bean Soup, and Rabbit with Cabbage and Sausage.

Special chapters on spices, herbs, and cooking with wine are also included along with a detailed index in both the front and back of the book.
