Osterett is the answer for those who live in apartments or who have small kitchens without room for big mixers. It's America's great lightweight mixer champion! So light and so easy to handle! (From the original box advertisements inserts)

{HISTORY}

Debuting in the late 1940's, the John Oster Manufacturing Company in Racine, WI solved a major problem that was plaguing its customers on the American homefront.... the cumbersome use of heavy kitchen mixing equipment. Up until then, Oster made large electric mixers designed to sit on the countertop. These big marvels were game changers for home cooks, enabling men and women to make food faster, more easily and more efficiently but they came with one drawback. Their sheer size took up too much countertop space in small homes and apartments and their mighty stature was cumbersome for kids to use.

Taking note of these trouble spots, Oster got to work in the design department and came up with the Osterett - a powerful portable hand mixer that was lightweight and easy to store. With its simple on/off toggle switch, long electric cord and two rotating beaters it offered cooks the ability to mix, mash, whip, cream and beat an assortment of foods from anywhere in the kitchen in any type of container. People were no longer confined to one area of their kitchen, and to the specific mixing bowls that could only be used in conjunction with their countertop mixers. They were now free to move about the kitchen... whipping up mashed potatoes in a pot...making fresh whip cream in a bowl blending cake batter in a pan. We are spoiled now by the ease of use of such equipment but back then this was a freeing piece of equipment that affected the entire range of home cooks from young and old.

{SIZE}

Box measures 9.25" inches (length)  x 9.25" inches (width) x 2.5" inches (height). Hand mixer measures 6" inches in length x 2.5" inches (width). Beaters measure 7" inches in length. Recipe booklet measures 4.5" inches (width) x 5.5" inches (length).

{WHY THIS IS INCREDIBLE}

The average age of kitchen appliances today is between 9-14 years for the big appliances but vintage mixers seem to operate forever - often outliving their owners by decades. In 1949, this mixer cost $14.95 brand new. Today, that would equal about $155.00, a not-too-inexpensive purchase in either decade.  Because our vintage lady here was treated with such care and kindness (as any good kitchen companion should be treated) she is ready for years and years of fun cooking adventures in future while while offering up a slice of retro nostalgia from the past. Vintage doesn't get any better than that!
