{HISTORY}

Founded by California born, George Aratani (1917-2013) in the 1950's, Mikasa began as an importer of Japanese dishware to America. Known for their fashionable designs, suburb quality and convenient sales shops located within stores like Macy's and Bloomingdales, their dishware was an immediate success with mainstream mid-century America and helped George build two other successful businesses on the side. Incredibly active throughout his life, in any and all things Japanese - American, George and his wife helped grow a business and a community in California that stood for respect and recognition for the contributions of Japanese - Americans in all areas of life.
