Absolute meticulousness is a little fearsome. Peg Bracken

{HISTORY}

We love this Peg Bracken quote just as much as we love this vintage apron. Lots of times people think that vintage linens should be kept high on the shelf or used for display only or tucked away in drawers for safekeeping. But here in the vintage kitchen, we like to put linens to work. While they may look too fragile or frilly, you'd be surprised as to how much they can withstand in the kitchen. With a little bit of care they can last for decades.

Take this apron as an example. It's lightweight, thin enough to be considered almost sheer, and stylishly delicate. Handmade sometime around the 1950's or 1960's, it's soft mint green color is as pretty and vivacious as it originally started out to be. The rickrac designs are still firmly in place and the pocket still fully attached, ready and willing to continue holding onto something wonderful just as it has for the past 60+ years. So what's kept this beauty looking so beautiful all these years? The proper activity, of course!

This gal probably hasn't overseen the clean out of the grease trap, or the mopping of the floor, or the messy prep work that goes into making a giant pot of winter soup) but as a very pretty light work apron, most likely it was worn for dishwashing/drying activities, table setting, final food presentation plating and possibly even tasks like flower arranging, dusting and cocktail making. In other words, all those meal prep activities that require some cover up for your clothes but nothing that involves errant meetups with grease, spattering stains and dirt.  Which means she is still up for similar tasks today. If used in that same way, she cleans up beautifully today herself whirling around the delicate cycle of the washing machine. Aprons were made to be used no matter how old they are. So get to work in this wonder. It promises to keep you looking pretty in the process.
