Primrose Dream... the modern way to store, serve and cook foods. From refrigerator... to oven... to table... (from a 1960's ad for Glasbake by Jeanette)

{HISTORY}

The history of this milk glass dish dates all the way back to the early 1900's, even though the dish itself wasn't made until the 1960's. A competitor to Pyrex, Glasbake dishes were created by the McKee Glass Company beginning in 1917 to assist home cooks with storage, serving and cooking needs. With the ability to do three kitchen jobs at once, Glasbake dishes could go straight from the fridge to the oven to the table without breaking, a thrifty time-saving and space-saving concept. The McKee Glass Company and the Glasbake brand changed hands over many decades throughout the 20th century, finally coming to rest with the Jeanette Glass Company in the 1960's, which was when this casserole dish was made. A pale shade of pastel avocado, this floral pattern was called Primrose Dream and was sold in both individual pieces and also convenience sets which could include up to 40 pieces of various sizes and shapes. This listing is for the 1 quart casserole size, an ideal capacity for a two portion meal.
