Just as every carpenter must have certain tools for building a house, every woman should have the right tools for the fine art of cooking. Colorful utensils add a cheery note to the kitchen. Advice from Betty Crocker circa 1950

{HISTORY}

This set of clear glass mixing bowls with the hard to find colorful fruit pattern was made by Anchor Hocking for their Anchor Ovenware line in 1990. To celebrate the 50th year of Fire King glass, Anchor Hocking launched this retro fruit pattern which is reminiscent of fun designs from the 1940's and 1950's.  Hard to find among Anchor's vintage mixing bowl sets,  these two are a bit of a rarity. With a colorful arrangement of apples, lemons, grapes, plums, cherries, pears and oranges they have an effortless ability to match the fun, nostalgic styles of 1940's and 50's kitchenware making them pretty mix and match collectibles for your vintage kitchen.

In business since 1905, Anchor Hocking has been decorating kitchens with functional (and pretty!) bakeware for over a century. Initially started by Isaac Collins in Lancaster, Ohio under the name Hocking Glass Company, a merger in the late 1930's with Anchor Cap Company changed the name to Anchor Hocking and kept Isaac busy in the office and on the executive board for an amazing 65 years before he retired in 1973 at the age of 98. Six years ago Anchor Hocking merged with flatware designer Oneida, another century-old leader in the cutlery industry. These mixing bowls not only represent a slice of vintage Americana but also they are a lovely example of the quality and commitment afforded by the leading glassmaker of the 20th century.

{CONDITION}

In well-loved condition, these vintage bowls were industrious workers back in the day and therefore have seen their share of cooking adventures. While the glass is clear and clean, you can see evidence of light beater scratches (especially on the small bowl) when held up to the light. 1/4th of the way around the rim of the large bowl is a little rough to touch - mostly likely caused by an electric mixer bumping up against the glass. Neither of these markings affects the use of either bowls - both are still perfectly functional. The fruit patterns are clear, crisp and bright on both bowls. The small bowl has a little bit of scratching in some fruit sections and is slighting less bright than the fruit on the larger bowl. Please see photos for all condition references.

{SIZE}

The small bowl measures 3" inches (height) x 6" inches (width) and holds 1 quart. The large bowl measures 4" inches (height) x 8.5" inches (width) and holds up o 2.5 quarts.

{STYLE IDEA}

In addition to their traditional intended function, vintage mixing bowls also make beautiful fruit holders and storage organizers for a bounty of various kitchen items.
