Vintage 1970's Metal Serving Tray - State of Utah Travel Souvenir - Collectible Maps
A weird, lovely, fantastic object out of nature like Delicate Arch has the curious ability to remind us—like rock and sunlight and wind and wilderness—that out there is a different world, older and greater and deeper by far than ours, a world which surrounds and sustains the little world of men as sea and sky surround and sustain a ship. Edward Abbey, 1968
Utah! The state that brought us two favorites - genealogy record collections and the Sundance Film Festival, not to mention a host of natural wonders like the Salt Flats, Monument Valley and Bryce Canyon. From the tippity top of its border to the very bottom, you can't get past Utah without talking about the mountains and all the awe-inspiring vistas they afford. Particularly enchanting in winter, these mountains are a snow lover's paradise boasting over 500 inches of snowfall a year. That cold but cozy atmosphere makes this vintage travel tray the perfect host for a round of fire-side toddies, hot chocolate or spiced glogg while you entertain guests with all your travel escapades and your daring snow-bound stories.
As more and more people began traveling around the country during the mid-20th century, a rise in collectible travel souvenir items became popular. One of the most fun ones were these metal souvenir trays made from the 1950's - 1970's depicting each and every state in the U.S. Appealing to jet-setters and road-trippers alike, they served as not only a nostalgic keepsake of a wonderful trip enjoyed, but also a useful piece of kitchenware that was both fun and functional. Each state tray was rimmed in gold and black and contained an outline of the state depicting popular cities, local attractions and a colorful snippet of local flora or fauna. With such dramatic graphic appeal that offered a cohesive color scheme, they made attractive wall decor when grouped together and provided a fun source of conversation while also being helpful servers in the kitchen.

The front side is in lovely condition. All the details are bright and clear and crisp. There are no dents but there is a small patch of rust marks on on the right side rim near the flowers. The back of the tray bears the original sticker that makes this tray easy to affix to the wall for display. The back also contains some light rust marks and a bevy of scratches, due to use and age. An absolutely lovely decor piece for cabins, cottages and all travel themed spaces, there is not a place in your home where this tray would not be appropriate from the entry hall to the back bedroom. Of course we favor kitchen spaces here, so we recommend hanging it above your bar cart, on your kitchen or dining room wall, or using it as a permanent display piece on your coffee table, counter or shelf.
