{HISTORY}

Long before our fancy food processors and electric grinders, there were petite wonders like this little lady - a 1930's era grinder meant for nuts, spices, bread crumbs and anything else you wanted to chop up into little bits. 100% hand powered, it is a simple mechanism that spins rolling metal teeth with an easy turn of the handle. Invented by Carl Sundstrand in 1935, a guy determined to make kitchen work more efficient and practical, this grinder replaced traditional chopping by hand using a knife. That old way of doing things left a big mess and pieces of varying sizes that ranged from fine particles to big chunks. Carl wanted to tidy that whole process up and to create more uniform pieces. Combing a glass receptacle fitted with his patented metal screw cap and grinder design, nuts were easier and faster to chop and produced more reliable results.

Full of character and pretty retro charm, this vintage kitchen equipment is still fully fun and functional. Made by Hazel-Atlas Glass Company in Wheeling, West Virginia, a humble worker like this one is not just a container, not just a grinder, not just a cute heirloom from history long ago but it's also a symbol of the kitchen and the powers that fueled it throughout a century.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- 2 piece set contains glass base and metal top

- working condition

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks in the glass. The grinder top screws securely onto the jar. The cranks and inner metal teeth operate smoothly. There is some slight chippiness in the red paint on the metal compartment around the base of the lid and one metal tooth is missing on the side closest to the handle. That missing tooth does not affect the operation or the grinding of the nuts.

{SIZE}

Measures 6" inches (height) x 3" inches (width at widest section of jar)
