{HISTORY}

Heavy (almost 8 lbs!) and functional, this antique floral basin bowl once came with a matching pitcher - a companion ensemble that was part of the proper grooming and beauty routines of the early 20th century. At some point in time, the basin lost track of its mate and was left to travel through life a solo companion. Lucky for us, one does not need the other in order to provide beauty and function in our modern-day lives.

Nowadays, basin bowls are so useful in a variety of ways. On the display front - they are ideal plant holders, table centerpiece containers and handy vessels for an array of stylish organization. Collect a batch of them and stack them up high on a shelf in a kitchen or prop them against the wall of an open-faced cupboard and you have a beautiful eye-catching piece of history to add to your dishware collection. Fill them up with ice and they became a drink cooler for parties or fill them with water and use them like a vase to float your big-blossomed garden flowers. 

Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we love to use basin bowls for all sorts of cleaning purposes and for a very specific task in particular - as a handwash soak tub for delicate kitchen items including barware and linens. Prettier than a plastic bucket, they can accommodate quite a few items at once and their wide rims offer plenty of room for gentle spot cleaning. 

This basin is unmarked as to maker or manufacturer so we can't say exactly when it was made, but we estimate it was created somewhere around the late 19th century or early 20th century based on floral patterns and color arrangement.

{CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition. There are no chips or cracks. Lots of delicate crazing can be seen on the front and back as well as light grey staining on the backside of the bowl.
