Vintage Shiny Brite Glass Ornaments with Yellow White and Blue Stripes - Set of Three circa 1940s-1950s
Shiny Brite makes sure your Christmas tree doesn't look like anyone else's... (A 1967 ad campaign for Shiny Brite glass ornaments)
In the mid-20th century, as soon as the Christmas tree went up in the house, the Shiny Brites came rolling out of boxes and closets, bins, and buckets, ready for the holiday decorating about to begin.
Founded by German-American immigrant Max Eckhardt in 1937, Shiny Brite was born out of necessity during the onset of World War II. As an importer of sought-after European glass ornaments, Max knew that the war would interrupt trade with European countries so he collaborated with New York-based Corning Glassworks to keep glass ornaments in production and available to all of his American customers.
Incredibly popular during the 1940s and 1950s, Shiny Brite ornaments came in a vast array of designs in both solids and patterns. Inexpensive decorations at the time, they were conveniently sold at five and dimes like Woolworth's, hardware stores, drug stores and other budget-friendly shopping centers, making them the easily accessible, go-to ornament for the holiday season. Available in a rainbow of designer colors they looked beautiful on both natural trees and those silver tinsel trees that were all the rage during the mid-20th century. Nowadays Shiny Brites offer a nostalgic glimpse into Christmases of the past. Each year more layers of festive memories add to their unique character.
This trio of vintage red and pink Shiny Brite glass ball ornaments feature colorful stripes in shades of white, pastel blue, marigold and pastel green. Two of the bulbs contain a base color of cherry red and the other contains a base color of hot pink/magenta. Measuring 2,25" inches in diameter, these ornaments add instant whimsy to any tree. We think they even have a bit of a nautical air with those colorful stripes that so remind us of lobster and crab buoys.
Aged to perfection they contain all the hallmarks of authentic vintage ornaments - oxidation, fading, tarnish, and crackly lines that look like ice trails.

{CONDITION}
Aged to perfection, these glass ornaments carry all the authentic patina that make you fall in love with vintage ornaments to begin with. Oxidation, color fading, crackly lines, and tarnished areas make each one 100% unique in aesthetic. One of the metal caps has some rust on the top and side and a chippy spot on the metal band, but this does not affect the ornament's ability to hang securely from its hanger. Please see photos.
{SIZE}
Each ornament measures 2.25" inches in diameter. Together, all three ornaments weigh 0.9 oz.
