{HISTORY}

Published in 1933, Eminent American Poets is a 256-page collection of poetry featuring the work of more than 250 remarkable writers of the early 1930's. Edited by James Rutherford and beautifully illustrated by Eleanor Falk, the poems contained in this book deal with a variety of captivating themes from classic subjects involving love, romance, nature, birth and death to more timely subjects like war, air travel, consumerism, art, uncertainty, hope, longing, religion and sense of place and purpose - all of which were major literary themes during the Great Depression.

Beautiful in both verse and sentiment, intriguing poem titles include There Might Be Glory in the Night, Cannery Town, June Moon Tune, Manchurian Pictures, The Treasure Ship, To America: A Protest, Little Ships That Never Sail, Heritage, and Hawk-Shadow. The poets who contributed their work here do not have mainstream name recognition like the famous poets that have kept step with history, but they have just as much talent. That is what makes this book so important. Through it, you'll discover new poems and new writers whom you might have never have been introduced to anywhere else. While you read it, you will become a revivalist of favorite passages and favorite poems almost lost to time but now come back into the light again.

The book's presentation is enhanced by Eleanor Falk's energetic line drawings  - 6 in total, which captures some of the book's themes.

{WHY IT IS ESPECIALLY MARVELOUS}

Firstly, Eleanor's artwork is beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing, especially for today's design preferences. Secondly, many of the poems featured here were published in leading magazines and periodicals of the late 1920s and early 1930s. The ways in which these poets string together words and thoughts with imagery and emotion were what shaped the writers of the 1940s and 1950s, which then inspired the writers of the 1960s and 1970s. So essentially they were crusaders on the literary trail paving the way for writers whom you admire today.
