Vintage 1950s White Glass Light Fixture for Hall or Foyer with Patterned Glass
{HISTORY}
In the 1950s, if you wanted a stylish light that offered bright illumination and industrial design, you'd stop into the housewares section of your local discount store and find one just like this. Made of ceramic-fired white glass with with patterned design, the cute little shape of this vintage glass shade reminds us of diving helmets and lighthouse beacons.
In 1955, this light fixture, which came complete with wiring and a simple chrome base would have cost $1.69 (about $19.00 today) and it would, in turn, light up your life for decades to come. Originally this light was designed with hallways and foyers in mind, but we'd love to see it in a kitchen too.
Bearing all the hallmarks of dynamic midcentury \industrial design, its clean lines, bright white aesthetic, and unusual shape make it an eye-catching design piece that nowadays offers all sorts of interesting possibilities.
Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we love it as a decor piece, but of course, it also would make a fabulous kitchen light too. Perhaps it's a lovely addition to your pantry or your kitchen nook, a wall sconce near your stove or over your kitchen sink. If you're of the crafty sort you could even fashion it as a pendant light hanging from the ceiling.
A standard light bulb fits inside, so the sky is the limit as far as your creativity goes. We also have another similar light fixture in the shop here, which might inspire you to pair up and create a one-of-a-kind design for your one-of-a-kind space.
