{HISTORY}
This beautifully bound 1940s catalog showcases reproduction 18th-century furniture from the Beacon Hill Collection that was available at New York City's B. Altman & Company Department Store beginning in the 1930s.
The catalog is a lovely reference guide for Georgian-era furniture. It features over two hundred pages of reproduction pieces, all newly created in the 20th century in the same style as furniture found in the homes of Boston's aristocratic Beacon Hill neighborhood from the late 1700s to the early 1800s.
Highlighting furniture typically placed in living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms of the 18th and early 19th centuries, pieces in the collection included sofas, tables, bookshelves, coffee tables, dining tables, reading stands, chairs, dressers, and mirrors all built using the finest techniques crafted by early New England tradesman and artisans.
This book illustrates the hallmarks of fine furniture of the Georgian period. It includes biographies of influential original designers like George Hepplewhite, Thomas Chippendale, and Thomas Sheraton, a section on the collection in miniature, and information regarding the historical significance of the Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Beautifully presented, each piece of reproduction furniture in the collection is photographed in situ, giving readers a chance to see how it could and would be styled most appropriately in a room.
A lovely book for interior designers, furniture lovers, and history aficionados, the Beacon Hill collection is both an interior design book and an art book all in one.
