{HISTORY}

Made by Edwin M. Knowles China Company in the mid-1930s, this vintage gravy boat contains a bright and cheerful springtime flower bouquet of tulips and daisies. Made in their Hostess shape, it features a lovely streamlined art deco style handle with a slender body and gold detailing along the rim and handle.

Based in West Virginia between 1900-1963, Edwin M. Knowles made some of the prettiest dishware in the country with patterns that were colorful, feminine and visually striking. True to nature, this gravy boat was created during a time when real tulips were striking the fancy of gardeners in the United States, a renaissance of sorts of the initial love of tulip frenzy first experienced in Holland in the 1700s.  The subject of garden shows and club discussions, tulips were favored for their elegant beauty and joyful exuberance in the springtime landscape.

This gravy boat follows suit. The tulips are large and blousy, the daisies colorful and cheery. It's easy to see how this pattern would have brightened up the springtime table for certain! We bet, this gravy boat was the star of the show at Easter dinners and springtime luncheon parties for decades.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks. The gold detailing around the rin and handle is fading in some areas. The interior is clean and bright. There are a few very light stains at the bottom of the boat, as expected with age. Please see photos.
