I'm saddened by the peonies before the steps, so red, as evening came I found that only two remained. Once morning's winds have blown, they surely won't survive, at night I gaze by lamplight, to cherish the fading red.” ― Bai Juyi

{HISTORY}

This rosy red platter, made by Myott, Son & Co in England most likely around the mid-1930s, features their Peony & Rose pattern. A beauty from all directions, the cranberry red and white chintz-style florals make this server especially pretty for table display and for passing around at parties. Cheese and crackers - that's what a former owner best liked it for. We like it best here in the Vintage Kitchen as a holiday server alternative to traditional red and green Christmas-themed platters. It it looks especially stunning with other vintage mix-and-match redware pieces ready for delicious holiday fare - cranberry warmed brie, apple chutney, spiced chicken you get the idea.

It's no wonder this platter adds such a sparkle to any festivity. Started by two brothers, Ashley and Sydney Myott in Cobridge, England in 1898, Myott Potteries was a successful dishware manufacturer through the first half of the 20th century until they were bought in the 1960s by Interpace. Merged again with Alfred Meakin a few years later to form the brand Myott-Meakin, this joint partnership pottery operated until the late 1980s. Partiers never retire. The next decade brought further mergers and acquisitions for the company, but it would never return, unfortunately, to its original humble family-style passion and thus faded out by the early 2000s.
