The dawn came - not the flaming sky that promises storm - but a golden dawn of infinite promise. The birds came flying up out of the East in wedge-shaped formation and the mist lifted in soft wreaths of sun-shot silver. Colour came back to the world. Elizabeth Goudge

{HISTORY}

Dunrobin... it's the name of a women's institute in Canada, a castle in Scotland, a locality in Australia and a china pattern in England! The one we are discussing here in this listing is the English version - the china pattern made by W.H. Grindley between the years of 1936-1954. Comprised of three complimentary colors this vintage pattern features a bright turquoise band, an almond color decorative rim featuring wreaths, swags and dots and an ivory center. A lovely combination for Fall, in particular for Thanksgiving dinner, this is a rare set of five dinner plates that will add instant beauty to your tablescape.

In operation for over 100 years, W.H. Grindley & Co. began in 1880 in the popular pottery hub of Stoke-on-Trent in Tunstall, England. Makers of both mass market china and hotelware for England export, Grindley pieces offer unique designs and interesting color arrangements. Associated with a handful of other notable potteries throughout its 100 year run including Alfred Meakin, Grindley ceased operation in 1991 after being acquired by Woodlands Pottery.
