Dogwood flowers are signs of rebirth and hope - the perfect companions for a new year full of new kitchen adventures and camaraderie...

{HISTORY}

Made in 1948 and 1962 by Buffalo China in Buffalo, NY, this set of bread and butter plates features the pretty dogwood pattern complete with a scalloped edge and a cheerful color palette.

Dogwood trees flower in nature in almost all zones of the United States and since they are one of the first trees to flower in Spring, they are a welcome bit of joy following the grey days of winter. Like those first days of the new season when the dogwood petals unfurl from their sleepy winter rest, these plates offer cheer year-round with their everblooming bouquet ready to dazzle and delight.

Buffalo China (originally known as Buffalo Pottery) was started in 1901 and from the get-go, it made records. It was the largest fire-proof pottery in the world at the time it was built and it was the first pottery in the world to operate completely by electricity. Those two bits of "edge" on the industry allowed Buffalo to power its way through the century turning out millions of pieces of pottery for the wholesale, retail, and restaurant industries.

Family-run throughout the 20th century, Buffalo navigated the highs and lows of the American economy and continued to produce high-quality dishware in incredible quantities. Unfortunately, the pottery failed to succeed following the sale of the company to a local ceramics venture in 2004, and the Buffalo brand never recovered.

It's unknown which restaurant these plates were destined for, but given the fact that three plates were made in 1962 and one plate was made in 1948, you can see this was a popular pattern for quite a number of years. Around here, we like to imagine it served up pastries in a bake shop or homemade rolls in a pretty little roadside cafe. The sky is the limit as to backstories and possibilities, making this set a fun piece of vintage Americana for your brain and your belly. Cheers to delicious daydreams!
